How Long is Medical Assistant Training?

Tuesday Jun 30, 2009

Medical assistant training is a 1-2 year long intensive training school that teaches you the ins and outs of the behind the scenes part of medicine. Generally, the one year course, completed through a vocational school where you become certified, will train you on the analytical and paperwork side of medicine. You will learn about data input, scheduling appointments and keeping all medical records up to date in the most recent programs. A two year training course gives a more in depth course of the hands-on approach to medical assisting. During these two years, you will learn how to properly withdraw blood from a patient as well as receive training on how to give injections. The training will also provide you with how to properly fill out a patient’s vital statistics from height and weight to blood pressure and heart rates. This is for the doctor to reference when making a diagnosis. He must have an accurate weight, etc, when prescribing any sort of antibiotic or medicine, so accurate information is crucial.
